Shady`s Generic List Of AOTY`s In 2011!!

Of course I`m gonna do a list, everyone`s doing them, might as well jump on the bandwagon and do one myself. I`m sure you`re gonna see some releases that you probably have seen in others` lists. Whatever. And in no particular order, here they are!! *drum roll*

Scale The Summit - The Collective
Genre: Instrumental Progressive Metal
It didn`t top Carving Deserts Canyons in my opinion, but it came pretty damn close. More melody oriented and much more mellow while still packing a punch, this instrumental goodness is just what a year of polyrhythm (djent, whatever) needed, just to make us prog junkies keep faith in progressive metal. Also, I`m pretty sure this album would be super extraordinary if you smoked pot while listening to this, so that should be a bonus for potheads.

Tyler The Creator - Goblin
Genre: Hip Hop/Rap
Yeah I know, pretty overhyped rapper. For the wrong reasons though since the only reason he`s popular is because of the shock value of some of the lyrics. I`m pretty sure that most of these hipsters only have listened to Yonkers but not the album completely. And they probably won`t like it. Why? The album has something unusual about it, definitely not for these 16 year old girls. Long songs, weird beats, different style of rapping, it has "odd" written all over it. Best experienced if listened completely without skipping any song, something that most people don`t even do nowadays.

Last Chance To Reason - Level 2
Genre: Progressive Deathcore/Experimental
I know I said this was in no particular order, but this may be my numbuh 1 in my list. The atmosphere about it, the voice, guitars , drums, bass, synth, lyrics; everything just fits right. Even though this is very proggy, this is just as heavy as it is progressive, it keeps its guts. Another album that`s better if listened to completely, rather than random songs since every song runs right after each other; making it seem like it`s a long ass song. Ohh and the badass album cover definitely doesn`t hurt.

Arsonists Get All The Girls - Motherland
Genre: Progressive Deathcore/Experimental
One of my favorite bands and this album is just another reason why. It`s in the same vein as Portals but it feels more...complete? Although I love Portals, it lacked cohesiveness at times, it lacked a certain something. Well whatever that something was, they got it here. Many of the songs play right after each other so again, it`s better if listened to completely, everyone is on point with their instruments (that drummer seems to get better and better with each album, seriously), some jazzy instrumentals, right amount of breakdowns that will crush your skull and just that experimental "we don`t give a fuck if you like this" type of stuff that made me love these guys in the first place.

Fallujah - The Harvest Wombs
Genre:Technical Death Metal/Progressive
Gonna get real generic and post this is in my top AOTY`s list. This album catapulted these guys to the top of tech death bands. It`s the perfect amount of technicality (meaning it doesn`t sound wanky or technical for the sake of being technical) with a progressive feel to it. The guitar tone on this album is just majestic at times, the drums are what you expect from a tech death album (meaning practically perfect drumming) and the singer does a great job keeping up with the whole atmosphere. It`s nothing new really, but it is flawlessly done. These guys are only going up at this point and I`m sure this band is only gonna get better and better with each album.

Powder AKA Casey Jones - 2-UP
Genre: Experimental Hip Hop/ 8-Bit
OHHH SHIT!!! Now this is my type of shit right here. Nintendo games beats, references of games while STILL going hard. Lyrically this dude is a beast, the beats are on point and there`s a few guests to keep it fresh but not too many that they take away his shine. It`s not like he`s talking about Pokemon`s and junk nerdcore style, it`s just references really that kinda gives it a bit of humor, keeping things even fresh-er (is that even a word?..).

Dr. Acula - Slander
Genre: Deathcore/Partygrind
Ohh geez, I`m never gonna hear the end of this. I loveeeeee this album, a real decent surprise this was, at least for me. It`s nothing groundbreaking, by any means, deathcore with party lyrics with the samples that Acula is known for. But for some reason I love this. It`s in the same vein The Social Event, but like Portals from AGATG. it lacked something but Slander feels more full, complete and mature.

The Rodeo Idiot Engine - Fools Will Crush The Crown
Genre: Mathcore / Blackened Mathcore
Down and dirty, grimy muddy mathcore that kinda borders on the lines of grindcore. It kinda reminds me of old Ion Disonnance which is a good thing since I love the crap out of old ID, (as well as newer ID) only that they aren`t as technical and they have a "blackened" feel to it that really sets them apart from other mathcore bands. Just awesome underrated stuff that really gets me going.

Equal Minds Theory - Equal Minds Theory
Genre: Mathcore/Experimenta
Another mathcore release that I loved the shit out of. But actually, I like this one even more than TRIE. It`s more on the Mathcore path that is pretty technical with some weird synths and autotuned voices, like vocoders if you will that will make you go "WTF is this awesome shit? o.O" And the breakdowns...my God. This gets my top unexpected favorite of the year haha.

Beyond Creation - The Aura
Genre: Technical Death Metal/Progressive
Canada and Tech Death goes together like butter and bread, pizza and pepperoni, pussy and cock, coke and breakcore. It`s just perfect. And this just proves that fact. Great musicianship that will melt your face off, sprinkled progressiveness all around and ohh yeah, YOU CAN HEAR THE BASS OUT LOUD!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHblebrlbleblber....errrr sorry folks, it`s just that good. If you haven`t heard this album that`s in many other AOTY`s lists , then you owe it to yourself to hear it.

Well here it is, my favorite full lengths of the year. Still to come: Top EP`s, Honorable Mentions and Biggest Disappointments. STAY TUNED FOR THAT SHIT!!!
